Welcome to my very first blog! I am sitting here on the porch writing this after having eaten my favorite Moe's menu item - a Moo Moo Mr. Cow (a relic of a name, that by now, after many years later of ordering it, is simply called a "Kids Burrito") with a side of Queso.
I wasn't sure what to write about in my first blog given that my hope with this is that it lets you, as the reader, learn more about me and what my business is about. Moreover, this blog is an opportunity for me to walk you through the journey of what being an entrepreneur is like, and if i'm doing a good job, inspire you to pursue what speaks to you towards fulfilling your dreams... Whatever that means to you.
I'll start off by reiterating the concept that Foundation is Everything.
Building a business from the ground-up with tight margins has been a big undertaking. I was just telling my former grad school friends, how, after hearing about their baby announcements, it feels like I, too, have had a baby of my very own. By no means do I equate having a baby to having a business, but the experience feels as new, exciting, and daunting as having one might feel like. Each step, each building block, requires tender love and care.
How it Began: Designing my Logo
I'll save the story of how I got the official 'green light' to move forward with starting my business for another time. For now, I will share the process behind my business' logo:
I'd like to say that the process was very methodical, as I tend to take that approach for situations in business the majority of the time, but this time around, it was pretty intuitive. The colors, the design, the lighthouse, the path... I let the purpose of the business essentially guide the way for what I wanted to see it represented as. At the same time, I went through multiple iterations of the design.
That's what I want to drive home with this blog.
While the idea may be there, it takes multiple attempts and iterations to get to the right plan. It's worth it: Having the right building block is crucial to establishing a solid foundation to scale in the long term. That goes for many elements of life beyond business.
It starts with a small step. And you keep going.
